FOSSILS-Great Meeting!

Hey Fossils members and friends!
We had a great meeting tonight at the New Albanian Brewing Company- Public House, otherwise known as RichO's.  We'll be here for a few more months or until work is completed on the Prost Room, which has been our regular meeting place. It'll be nice to get meetings back on track on Saturday evenings also. Next meeting will be Sunday, October 13 at RichO's.
Tonight we had a toast for one of our faithful members who passed away. Rod Rodriguez.  A good man, and a great personal friend to many of us. Rod, you will be missed.
Tonight we had Officer Nominations for the coming year. Nominations can be made throughout the month, until the election, by contacting one of the current officers.  You can even nominate yourself! There is also the option for write in votes.
There are four official positions we call offficers: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Tonight Richard Rush was nominated to run as President. Susan Kaempfer as Vice President, a new member, Laura Buckingham as Secretary, and Debbie Frazier as Treasurer. Please consider running for an office.  You will have plenty of support from past officers, and it's not that hard.  The toughest part is going for Executive meetings, talking, drinking beer and getting to be in on what's going on behind the scenes.  Cool, eh? Writing this email is about the toughest thing I've done as Vice President, since I'm filling in for Joe Bray, who skipped town on us (GRIN) to take a job in Michigan.
This evening we also had the Annual Brewfood Competition. Entries were judges by the club, and the winners are...
Third Place...Melissa McCullough with her Beans, Rice and Beer, Andouille Sausage and...BACON!
Second Place...Kira Tash with a very yummy Farmhouse Ale Strawbeery Sorbet. (I can't believe I just made that typo...strawbeery?)
and (drumroll)...
First Place...Barb Cotton with her 'Hopped-up Sun Dried Tomato Panchetta Bruchetta on Garlic Polenta Crisps."
Congratulations to our winners!
The raffle had some very nice prizes, and enough that pretty much everyone who entered was a winner.
November Meeting will be our Annual Craft Raffle, so get started with your personally crafted items to bring! These raffles support our club and keep membership fees silly-low.
Susan Kaempfer and John Dillman, her husband have offered to open their store on the Saturday evening of Harvest Homecoming (October 12) for Fossils members to hang out and listen to some awesome live rock and roll.  We did this last year and it was a blast, and Susan and John wanted to open it for Fossils folk. Thanks guys!
That about wraps up this newsletter! Stay tuned for occasional updates and changes!
See you soon!

Just another reminder folks that our meetings are on Sundays for a while since the Prost Room is under renovation.
Tomorrow, September 8, at 6:30, at Sportstime is our regular meeting.  We will have nomination of officers for the coming year and our Annual Brewfood Competition! Bring your 'A' game and plan on supporting your club!
Don't forget to bring homebrews to share and raffle items!
See you tomorrow!
Ed Needham,

FOSSILS Reminder! No August Meeting!

Due to FOSSILS activities at the Kentucky State Fair Homebrew Judging, there is no meeting in August.
The next meeting will be SUNDAY September 8th. Sunday at Sportstime will be our regular meeting day while the Prost Room is being renovated.

We will be conducting officer nominations. Please consider using your talents for the club and running for an office. At least three of the four current officers will not be running for office this time, so we will need some new blood, er, brew to fill the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. It's not hard, and for the most part is fun. Just do it.  :)

We will also be enjoying the Brewfood Competition!  Be thinking about your prize winning recipes!

The next Executive Planning Meeting will be at RichO's on 8/22 at 7:30.  All members are welcome to attend and participate.

We are sad to hear of the passing of Rod Rodriguez, a FOSSIL member and great man. Rod, you will be missed.  We will toast to his life at the next meeting.

Sincerely, Your Vice President, and interim Secretary,

Ed Needham

2013 FOSSILS Picnic

We've said it before, but here's a reminder!

The 2013 FOSSILS Picnic will be held at the home of Ed Needham on Saturday, July 13, 2013 from noon till midnight. We've met here before for the 20 Year Anniversary Party, so many of you may be familiar with the location and the layout. The home is located at 1902 McDonald Lane in New Albany, not more than two or three blocks from RichO's NABC where we have our meetings. There is an 18'x33' pool, five decks, and three swings that we can all use, as well as an acre of yard for games, sports or finding a quiet place to sit and talk.
FOSSILS will provide fried chicken and something for those who are not meat eaters, as well as paper products, but it'll be up to you to bring a tasty dish or two.  Desserts, casseroles, you know the drill.  Bring enough for those with you and we'll all pitch it together.
Homebrewers! Bring your homebrew!  We'll have jockey boxes and cold plates, but if you have one, bring it!  Please let Ed Needham needham.ed@gmail.com know if you plan to bring homebrew so we can make sure we have enough!
So...
Bring homebrew (let Ed know)
Bring Food
Bring Lawnchairs
Bring glassware for you to drink with
Bring a raffle item!
Drink responsibly! Plan for a designated driver who can drive you safely home.
Ed Needham will not be responsible for any accidents at the party! Attending assumes you understand this.
Let's have some fun!

Dogs are welcome if they are people and dog friendly!
Kids are welcome too!
Guests are welcome but please be responsible for your guests!
There is a Facebook Event Page for those of you on Facebook.  Check it out and 'join'.

Let's have a good time.  Rain or shine. There will be plenty of tent, awning, indoor space if it rains.

Vice President and Acting Secretary,
Ed Needham 502-608-4936

Great May Meeting!

I hope all the Fossils Mothers had a great Mother's Day weekend!

We had a great meeting Saturday! Light in attendance, but there were a number of competing activities, including Mother's Day family plans that probably had an impact. We're on a roll though, and the meetings just keep getting better!

The entries for the President's Choice- Imperial Porter Competition were all stellar in my opinion, and it's always a treat to taste the brews created by others in the club! The official winners will be posted soon. (I was out of the room when they were announced and missed all but the winner!)

We will have our next meeting at Turtle Run Winery on Sunday, June 9th. Mark your calendars now!

There will be no regular meeting on Saturday the 8th in the Prost Room.

Please update your calendar now so it gets a priority spot.  This will be fun! -- More details will follow.

Have a great month and brew/drink some great homebrew!

Ed Needham

Fwd: FOSSILS NEWS(LETTER)

Happy New Year!  Welcome back to the world of Saturday Meetings!

Howdy Howdy everyone.  I haven't posted a newsletter for December, and I'd like to get some information out today.

First things first, the Calendar

January Meeting (Jan. 12, 2013)
     Saturday @NABC (Back of Prost)
Do not bring homebrew to this meeting (see my notes below)
          Pungent & Funky Competition!!!!
Briing your most awesome funky and pungent recipe.  It will be a judged event.  Ed Needham is running the event this year.

January Exec Meeting (Jan. 24, 2013)
At NABC at 7:30pm.  Bring your enthusiasm and your notepad!  Drink a pint, have fun.

February Meeting (Feb. 9th, 2013)
Chocolate & Beer Event, More details at the January Meeting!

March Meeting (Mar. 9th, 2013), April Meeting (Apr. 13, 2013)
     Theme is TBD,

May Meeting (May 11, 2013)
This meeting will be the President's Choice judging.  The Beer Style this year is Imperial Stout!!!!  I've got mine maturing, do you have your's????

The Christmas Party was a lot of hard work and our thanks go out to everyone involved in making it a rousing success!  The party however, unearthed a new issue for the club.

As you may have heard, Hidden Creek has some issues in allowing FOSSILS to bring in homebrew.  Being a homebrew club, this was a big issue.  I am paraphrasing here, so some of the details will be glossed over.   Hidden Creek had called the Seymour ATC office for understanding on what they were allowed to do and were advised that they could not allow us to bring in brew. Roger Baylor stepped in to help investigate the issue and similarly advised that the Local ATC interpretation of the Homebrew Statute does not allow for homebrew to be brought into a licensed ATC space (read: NABC and other places licensed to sell beer).
This flies directly against the original interpretation and the reason the statute was written and passed.  Roger and others continue to investigate the issue, but as it stands, we cannot bring in homebrew to NABC without jeopardizing their license.

That is about all for now.  I hope to see everyone on the 12th!

Cheers,
Joe Bray
